Dayspring has been an Edmonton Food Bank Depot for over 25 years. We’ve been able to provide volunteers EVERY SINGLE Thursday during that time, except for a couple of months that the Food Bank was shut down in the early stages of the pandemic. Many Dayspringers have volunteered their time to keep it going through all of these years.
Recently Dayspring was awarded the “2020 Janet Hughes Award” from the Edmonton Food Bank. Since 2000, the Janet Hughes Award has been presented in recognition of a person or organization who lessen food insecurity in our city.
Despite the challenges presented by the pandemic, our Dayspring Church Food Depot navigated these problems with creative solutions. Our Youth Coordinator mobilized young volunteers to manage the depot in the early days of the pandemic. Then we partnered with another church, The neighbourhood food depot remains open and serving the community.
